Gil Harris of Limerick, Maine, Selectman and former co-chair of the Maine Green Independent Party, writes an opinion piece in the Portland Press Herald proposing that ‘we, the people’ should control Maine’s vital infrastructure, including banks. Harris writes that the commons should be deprivatized:
“Public banks, like the Bank of North Dakota, could focus lending practices that meet the needs of ‘we, the people.’ Loans for environmental and infrastructure projects could benefit the public and create good-paying jobs.”
