Highlighting the growing interest in a New Jersey state-owned bank, over 20 prominent New Jersey civic groups recently pressed Department of Banking and Insurance (DOBI) Commissioner Marlene Caride to provide a progress report on the New Jersey Public Bank Implementation Board.

Joan Bartl, long-time PBI advocate and one of four governor-appointed public members of the Board, reports that regular meetings are underway. After some Covid-related delays, the Board is studying the state’s unmet state financial needs in preparation for drafting legislation.
